Training
When training a horse, we expect the horse to “follow closely” to our commands and the instructions we are giving him. Native Americans held a piece of cloth or leather in one hand as a focal point for the horse to define where his attention should lie. The role played by the cloth was to simply get the horse to associate it with opportunities to communicate with you.
Reading in Proverbs 16:3 we learn that the Lord is in all our plans and desires. It reads, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Further down in the chapter it continues with, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” I wonder how many times I need to have a cloth wagged in front of me for the LORD to get my attention. He desires to communicate with us and fulfills his promises to us daily.
As we enter into this Easter season, I, for one want to heed the voice when the LORD whispers, “Sheep, follow closely.” There is no better time to step into training in hearing his voice.
Until next time...
What is your heart throb?
